Here at Elysian Capital Holdings we effectively join SMART PEOPLE, with SMART CAPITAL, to ultimately create SMART BUSINESS. Who are these SMART PEOPLE you may ask? Elysian Inside takes a look beyond the professional biographies and gives you an inside look at the HEART of Elysian Capital Holdings.
This month, we feature John Harline, Founder, Managing Partner and Chief Executive Officer of Elysian Capital Holdings, LLC. He also serves as Managing Partner and Chief Executive Officer of Partnervest Financial Group. John drives the strategic direction of Elysian Capital Holdings, while creating the vision and leading the company in its operational and business affairs.
Q: Many readers have known you for many years; get us up to speed, what have you been up to for the past two years since founding Elysian Capital Holdings?
A: It seems almost surreal that in two short years, what started as little more than a novel idea, has grown into a thriving enterprise. Today, Elysian is a successful business with a portfolio of eleven diverse affiliate companies. Looking back, I believe much of our success is attributed to one fundamental thing: if you do right by people, more opportunities will come your way. This is what we strive to do at Elysian. We are very careful to negotiate good deals, and fair deals. Ultimately, this leads to more deals. We are honest with those we are trying to help, and will not take on a new client unless we can assist them on their pathway to Elysian, or as directly translated, the heaven they envision for their company.
Q: As one of the founders of our Elysian family, what do you enjoy most about your work?
A: I deeply enjoy helping companies grow and make progress towards their goals. Knowing that my work on a project will positively impact a client to reach their ultimate success makes my job rewarding. At a fundamental level, it is about serving others. This is what brings me the highest level of fulfillment.
Q: You have had many wonderful mentors during your career and have mentored many people as well; what is the best piece of advice you have ever received?
A: The most valuable piece of advice I have ever received comes from my long-time mentor and friend, Jim McInnis: “Always tell the truth. Do the right thing. Deliver on your promises. If you follow these three simple rules, you will never have to apologize for anything you do in life.” These are the words I live by.
Q: What drives your focus; what motivates you?
A: I am driven by passionate people who are inspired by what they do. This is what motivates me and what inspires me to assist others in achieving their goals.
At Elysian, I am surrounded by people who are passionate about serving people. Our leadership is comprised of those who are not only good at what they do, but love what they do. When these forces are aligned, there is no goal that cannot be achieved.
Q: What 3 things do you think about the most each day?
A: My daily thoughts revolve around Elysian and its success as a business. Specifically, I think about how to protect the business from potential liability; how to remove hurdles which could stand in the way of the company’s progress; and finally, how to create opportunities that will result in Elysian’s ultimate success.
Q: What is on the horizon for Elysian Capital Holdings?
A: As we look to the future, our goal is to continue growing each of Elysian’s eleven affiliates. Through the implementation of innovative business concepts, our dynamic leadership team will continue the momentum we have started within each of our enterprises. Our plan is to steadily increase our holdings by acquiring more companies, while diversifying our portfolio to include a variety of businesses, even beyond those in the financial services industry. We are excited about what the future holds for Elysian.
